It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mazi Chima Ogbonna Nwokolo, age 44, who left us on February 10, 2025. Chima, a calm, gentle, and funny giant, was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
He had an extraordinary ability to make those around him feel seen, heard, and loved. Chima’s presence brought warmth to every room he entered, and his infectious smile and sharp sense of humor will forever be cherished.
Biographical Information: Chima was born on November 6, 1980, in Den Haag, The Netherlands, to the late Mazi Hubert Nwokolo and Mrs. Uche Nwokolo. From a young age, Chima lived a life filled with diverse cultural experiences, as he was raised in Den Haag, Nigeria, and Norway before returning to Den Haag to complete his high school education at the American School of The Hague.
His upbringing across different countries shaped him into a compassionate and open-minded individual, with a global perspective that he carried throughout his life.
After high school, Chima pursued higher education with passion and determination. He attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and went on to receive a Master’s degree from The University of Houston. He excelled in his studies and proved to be a dedicated scholar, laying the foundation for his future successes.
Chima was married to his college sweetheart, Omonele Nwokolo, for an incredible 20 years. Together, they created a loving home and raised two wonderful children, Kelechi and Chinenye.
He was a proud father, always showing up for his family with love, humor, and unwavering support.
He is also survived by his loving mother, Uche Nwokolo, and his siblings, Ugo, Chinemerem, and Uzo Nwokolo, who held him in the highest regard. In addition, Chima is survived by a large extended family of cousins, in-laws, and relatives who will deeply miss his presence. He was predeceased by his father, Hubert Nwokolo, who was a source of inspiration and guidance in his life.
Professional Life: Chima enjoyed a distinguished career in Finance and Accounting, dedicating 19 years of his life to Hess Corporation, where his contributions were instrumental to the company’s growth and success. His professionalism, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities made him an invaluable team member. Outside of his professional achievements, Chima was also committed to serving his community.
He was an active participant in Arochukwu Community activities, working to create positive change and supporting philanthropic efforts. He always found ways to lend a hand, whether it was through volunteering, charity work, or simply being a reliable and compassionate friend to those in need.
Personal Life: Chima’s passions extended far beyond his professional life. He had a deep love for basketball, and from a young age, he dreamed of one day playing in the NBA. While his path did not take him to the professional courts, his enthusiasm for the game never wavered. He played basketball with the same energy and dedication that he applied to all aspects of his life, and he was always ready to gather friends and family for a friendly game. His love for fast cars and his expertise as a Streetfighter enthusiast were also major parts of his personality. Chima approached everything he loved with fervor, and his interests reflected the joy he took in living life fully.
But what truly set Chima apart was his incredible character. He was known for his kindness and generosity, always finding a way to help others, no matter how big or small the gesture. He could find humor in any situation and was able to bring laughter to the darkest of times. His easygoing nature meant that he lived life without drama, spreading positivity wherever he went. Chima’s humility, warmth, and deep sense of compassion left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Chima is survived by his cherished wife, Omonele Nwokolo; their beloved children, Kelechi and Chinenye Nwokolo; his loving mother, Uche Nwokolo; his siblings, Ugo, Chinemerem, and Uzo Nwokolo; and a host of cousins, in-laws, and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.
He was predeceased by his father, Hubert Nwokolo, who shaped his life in countless ways and whose wisdom and guidance will always be remembered.
